History

Four Star Freightliner grew from two former Dealerships located in central and southern Alabama. Jerry A. Kocan bought the assets and assumed the locations of the Freightliner Dealerships formerly known as Coblentz Truck Center (Montgomery, Alabama) and Freightliner Trucks of Dothan (Dothan, Alabama) from Daimler. Both Dealerships held a long history of success within their communities. These two locations were purchased in 1999 and brought together in January of 2000.

After his success and experience as Vice President and General Manager of one of the largest truck dealerships in the Southeast (Atlanta, Georgia), Jerry Kocan was able to acquire these Freightliner locations and quickly brought them together as one team. Seeing a need for a service facility to support the customers in south Georgia and those traveling on I-75, Four Star Freightliner opened a service facility off of Exit 59 on Interstate 75 in Tifton, Georgia in late 2001.

In an effort to better support customers traveling on Interstate 10 and those in the panhandle of Florida, Four Star Freightliner opened a service facility in Tallahassee, Florida off of Exit 196 and Capital Circle in 2003. Four Star Freightliner is responsible for 16 counties in the panhandle of Florida including the capital of Florida, Tallahassee, and now supports a 15,000 square foot state of the art facility that rests on seven acres off of Capital Circle in the heart of Tallahassee’s business district.

Our Tifton, Georgia facility has been recently remodeled and expanded to boast 20,000 square feet under one roof with over 15 service bays. Both the Tallahassee and Tifton are full service Freightliner, Western Star and Fuso locations as well as Cummins and Detroit engine certified service locations.

Four Star’s latest location in Valdosta, Georgia is located off of Interstate 75 and Exit 11. In one of Valdosta’s busiest Industrial Parks on Madison Highway (1527) with five acres and 25,000 square feet under one roof. This location was opened in January of 2011 and now gives Four Star Freightliner two Georgia locations to support its south Georgia area of responsibility.

Four Star Freightliner is proud of having created a “family atmosphere” with regard to our employees. Jerry A. Kocan, the dealer principal, has been married for over 20 years and has two daughters. One of the building blocks of the company has been its ability to attract, hire and retain great employees and people. The executive management team boasts over 180 years of experience.

Due to a high retention rate at the dealership locations as well as the commitment to invest in the employees, Four Star has experienced a consistent level of knowledge, expertise and support at each location. A vast majority of the departmental managers have been “home grown” within our ranks. Our policy of promoting from within has helped Four Star attract, hire and retain excellent employees who have become our single biggest advantage. Our Four Star advantage is our people!
